About

Masjid Beautification Day (MBD) was established in 2013 by a group of college students and young professionals in Atlanta, GA, who took inspiration from Georgia Tech's "Tech Beautification Day" - https://gttbd.wordpress.com. MBD aims to become a National Day of Community Service for Muslims in the USA.

The first masjid to support and fund MBD was Al-Farooq Masjid of Atlanta. In the past five years, many masajid all over the state of Georgia have taken part in this initiative as well. If your masjid, city, or community would like to join, please contact us.

God created nature in a balance ("al-mizan") and mankind's responsibility is to maintain this fragile equilibrium through wise governance and sound personal conduct.

Mission

Masjid Beautification Day (MBD) aims to become a National Day of Community Service for Muslims in the USA. This year will commemorate our 5th year of Service to the Greater Atlanta Area.

MBD was established in 2013 by a group of college students and young professionals who sought out to:

1) help clean up community spaces after they are used extensively in Ramadan
2) help bring youth involvement into Muslim community spaces and surroundings
3) help young professional concentrate their community service efforts to the Muslim Community
4) help build a connection between the community and the Muslim Community Spaces/Mosque's
5) help increase cooperation between Muslim Spaces/Mosque's
6) help unite Muslim efforts (since several communities/Mosque's take part in this on the same day)
7) create an "open house" atmosphere for non typical community space/Mosque participants to feel welcome on this day to visit any participating Community Space's/Mosque's
8) help create a friendly environment to networking with community members
9) harness the power of our numbers to do something productive for the community (such as projects that require lots of manpower)

SUSTAINABILITY

Through Mayor Kasim Reed’s Love Your Block program, a key initiative of the Mayor’s Forward Together strategic service plan, volunteers will lead projects throughout the city to beautify Atlanta’s neighborhoods and public spaces.

ENLIVENING OUR SURROUNDINGS

Local masjids will be brightened with new landscaping and freshly painted walls, hallways and campus grounds. These improvements enhance our masjid experience as well as the experience of those served by nonprofits.

CREATING A BRIGHTER FUTURE

The future of Atlanta’s muslim youth will be made stronger and richer through community cleanup projects. Youth will learn hands on activities such as painting and gardening with the ppurpose of creating a beautiful and sustainable masjid.  All volunteers are welcome.

You are the best people ever raised for the good of mankind; you enjoin what is good and forbid evil and believe in Allah.
